At Rippa Tennis, we are a family run coaching team passionate about growing tennis in Townsville. As a husband and wife coaching duo, proudly joined by our daughter, we bring a fun, supportive and community focused approach to every session. We believe every player, whether new to the sport or progressing through the Hotshots stages, deserves patient guidance, positive encouragement and age appropriate lessons that help them thrive. Our goal is to help children and families build confidence, coordination and a lifelong love for tennis in an environment that is welcoming, relaxed and genuinely local.

How a family dream became a coaching community

Rippa Tennis began as a long held dream for Andrew, who has spent more than twenty years coaching tennis and imagining a program built on family values, genuine care and a strong sense of community. For over fifteen years he hoped to create a coaching environment that felt welcoming, positive and truly supportive for both children and adults.

In early 2025, our family made the decision to leave Brisbane so we could pursue this dream together. Andrew stepped away from his full time Head Coach position and Angela closed her Family Daycare, both committed to building something meaningful for the Townsville community. We relocated for a coaching contract at another venue, and during that time it became clear that the family-friendly coaching approach we believed in was something we needed to create ourselves.

With a clear purpose and a shared passion for the sport, we began building Rippa Tennis from the ground up. What started as Andrew’s long time dream has grown into a warm, family run coaching program that supports players of all ages across Townsville. Today, Rippa Tennis reflects our commitment to high quality tennis coaching, positive player development and a welcoming environment where everyone can feel confident, encouraged and part of a community.

Andrew Davey
Director & Performance

Andrew is a highly experienced tennis coach with more than twenty years in the industry, having coached at leading Brisbane programs including the Queensland Tennis Centre, Tennis Gear, the University of Queensland, Laffs Tennis Centre and Tennis for Kids. He has worked with players of all ages, from beginners to developing performance athletes, and before leaving Brisbane coached one of Queensland’s top 50 Under 12 Girls.

Andrew brings an energetic, positive and motivating coaching style to every session. He challenges players to be their best both mentally and physically, while helping them build strong fundamentals, confidence and a genuine love for tennis. His depth of experience and passion for player development make him a key part of Rippa Tennis in Townsville.

Angela Davey
Development Coach

Angela brings more than a decade of experience working in education, supporting children from birth through to high school. Growing up in Mackay, she played tennis from a young age and has always loved the energy, discipline and fun the sport brings.

With her strong background in child development, Angela creates a positive, nurturing and engaging coaching environment for players of all ages. She loves helping players discover their strengths and celebrates every achievement, big or small, both on and off the court. Angela combines her educational expertise with her passion for tennis to help children and adults learn with confidence, stay motivated and enjoy every session. Her warm approach and strong communication skills make her an essential part of the Rippa Tennis coaching team in Townsville.

Kiana Davey
Junior Coach

Kiana is at the beginning of her coaching journey and is already thriving on court. As Andrew and Angela’s daughter, she has grown up around tennis and the family values that shape Rippa Tennis. With experience assisting Angela in her family daycare, she has a natural ability to connect with young children and create a fun, supportive learning environment.

Kiana currently coaches the Blue and Red Stage programs, where her patience, positivity and enthusiasm shine. She excels academically and loves a challenge, bringing that same determination and curiosity into her coaching. Her passion for learning shows both in the classroom and on the court, where she consistently challenges herself to grow and support the players she works with. Kiana is excited to continue developing as a coach and is a valued part of the Rippa Tennis team.
